This is the main page for The FurRing. Created by Mark Freid after discovering the WebRing by Sage.
Web rings are a novel way to visit a multitude of pages on the same subject, just by visiting one page, and then moving onto the "next" page via a link.. They are laid out in a "ring"-like format, so that by travelling through all the pages, eventually you will arrive back at the first page you visited.

The FurRing, created in August, 1996 is made up of homepages relating to Anthropomorphic ("furry") art, fandom and lifestyle. For more general information on what "Furry" is all about, visit PeterCat's Furry FAQ Page.

Anything on this page that seems like me yelling, complaining, or ranting is strictly due to way too many people breaking the rules, then yelling at ME. I'm doing this as a service to the furry Internet community, and because I enjoy it. Not because I have to. There is a button on the management page called "delete this ring"... it's REAL easy for me to hit that button.

Joining the FurRing!

NOTE! Many people have been attempting to join the ring without following all of the steps below. You cannot just add yourself to the ring, without having the appropriate code & images. PLEASE follow the directions CLOSELY. You must have the code & images on your page, BEFORE joining the ring (and preferably before applying).

DISCLAIMERS:

Part the first:
If a page submitted to the queue does NOT have the required HTML/images on the page, it will remain in the queue until the changes are made. (I WILL NOT SEND OUT ANY WARNINGS) The system will AUTOMATICALLY remove sites from the queue after they sit there for THREE WEEKS. People removed from the queue have the option to re-apply.

Part the second:
There have been issues of copyright infringment occurring in the FurRing. Unfortunately, this is a sticky issue, and the policies are as follows: If I receive complaints about any sort of copyright infringment on a site on the ring, the site will be removed from the ring, and placed in the FurRing queue, pending investigation by the RingMaster, until the issue is resolved between both parties. The RingMaster does not want to get in the middle of said issues, so if it happens, the offended party should report it to the RingMaster so it can be removed from the queue. Then the offended party should make restitution him/herself with the offending party. When the matter is settled, the offended should email the ringmaster so that the page can be reinserted. I simply cannot allow the ring to be a home for such activities.

Here are the steps that need to be followed to join FurRing. Please follow them closely to preserve the integrity of the ring!
I have made every effort to type out the instructions step-by-step so that it will be easy to set up correctly. If you have any questions, please e-mail me!.

Save the following FurRing graphics to your local machine, then upload them to the server where your page is.

Please note that these images are meant for pages with a DARK colored background. for pages with LIGHT colored backgrounds, use the images located at the bottom of the screen
Please do not reference these images from another server (like mine!) without permission.
Copy the following HTML into your web page where you want the FurRing links to go:

When complete, and you view your page, the section you created should look something like this:

In the HTML, in the 3rd section, where it says "<a href="mailto:_____ ", replace the "______" with your E-mail address
On the same line, where it says "_______, replace the "_______" with your name or On-line handle.
Fill out the form below to register your site. Please note this does not insert you into the ring!... It just registers you with the program and assigns you a site ID number.

After filling out the form, you will receive your SITE ID NUMBER. Write it down.
You will see four more sections in the HTML that have underscored areas ("_____"). Replace ALL of these with your SITE ID number.

For instance, if your ID number is 10, in section 4, where it reads:
"<a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=furring&id=______&next">"
After you edit it, it should read:
<a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=furring&id=10&next">
Now, Mark will see your entry in the FurRing queue, and will add your site (usually within a week) if the page has been set up correctly. If not, your site will REMAIN in the queue until you make changes, or until the system removes it (3 weeks).

Then, you're DONE!

Important Notes!

Remember that the only pages that are applicable to the ring are pages whose content has to do with "Furry" art, fandom or lifestyle. Never link a page that does not contain said content. TAKE NOTE! Pages about pets or real animals are not considered relevant content.
The page MUST MUST MUST MUST have some sort of content relating to the subject matter. I DON'T care if you just "like furries", but don't have furry content on your site... I won't add pages without appropriate content!
Please don't worry about not being added to the ring in a timely manner. Mark checks the Ring database at least twice a day on weekdays, and at least once on weekends.
PLEASE REMEMBER! You cannot be added to the ring unless the images and links are on your page! Please add the HTML and images to your page, before E-mailing me to add you to the ring!
